Stephy “Joy” Johnson

VISIONARY MOVEMENT ARTIST

Stephy Joy is a dynamic movement educator and wholistic wellness specialist with over two decades of experience empowering people to move, feel, and live better. With a lifelong foundation in dance and a professional background that spans yoga, functional training, and postural therapy, Stephy’s teaching bridges high-performance movement with deep restoration—designed to help people thrive and more fully enjoy life.

A former professional modern and contemporary dancer, Steph grew up immersed in classical ballet, jazz, tap, and competitive swimming, developing a deep love for the body as a tool for expression, empowerment, and joy. Her work today is the evolution of that lifelong passion—meeting people where they are and guiding them toward more aligned, pain-free, and pleasure-filled movement.

Her zone of genius lies at the intersection of functional and postural training, expressive movement and restorative modalities including yoga, fascial release, and meditation. She specializes in the Bowspring method, a dynamic alignment system that retrains the body to be open, springy, and fully engaged—ideal for reversing the effects of sedentary work, injury recovery and supporting optimal posture, breath, and energy.

Stephy Joy’s offerings go far beyond traditional yoga or fitness classes. She teaches integrative movement practices that seamlessly translate into work life, recreation, leisure and outdoor adventures—guiding people to use their bodies with greater awareness, intelligence and ease.

Steph discovered her passion for teaching in 2002, sharing her love of dance and expression to young children. She continued teaching children and was a beloved teacher at the Atlanta Ballet School of Dance Education, and Atlanta based non-profit Good Moves providing dance education to underserved youth up until 2014. Additionally, Steph has been a Master Teacher at Exhale Mind/Body Spa in Atlanta since opening in 2010, where she has led thousands of classes including barre, HIIT, cardio, strength training, alongside vinyasa and restorative yoga.

Stephy holds certifications in Rajadiraja (hatha) yoga, Budokon yoga, Bowspring, Thai yoga massage, plant-based nutrition (eCornell), attuned Usui Reiki Master, along with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, giving her a uniquely Wholistic approach to well-being and vitality.

Stephy’s movement journey is evolving, an amalgamation of practices from her explorations across movement, community and spiritual development, she is bringing forth murmurr. An emergent movement arts practice born from her devotion to cultivating harmony—within body, community, and the Earth. Rooted in the dynamic principles of Bowspring, murmurr is a practice that brings movement, breath, song and playful somatic explorations into moving prayer. Bringing participants into a state of heart coherence and collective resonance.

Above all, Stephy Joy is passionate about helping people remember the innate power, resilience and intelligence of their bodies—and use it for maximum enjoyment of life, both indoors and out.

TESTIMONIALS

Stephy’s class is truly transformative. Coming from a chiropractic background, I deeply value movement that is both functional and expansive - Bringing space and engagement to the body while honoring its nature.

Stephy masterfully guides you through movement using the foundations of Bowspring with such precision and care that it feels like a deep full-body reset. Her attention to detail is exceptional, allowing you to tap into deeper awareness and alignment.

I left feeling more open, spacious, and embodied, with a renewed excitement for the depth I can explore within myself. What an epic class! Highly recommend to anyone looking to reshape their movement - and their life.

Whatever I say about Steph won’t be enough.
I’ve been taking her Bowspring/murmurr class for the past few months, and it’s become one of the highlights of my week--a sacred ritual I now need for my mood, my posture, my alignment, and my overall sense of well-being.

The Bowspring Method itself is extraordinary - intelligent, dynamic, and profoundly effective for posture, fascia release and whole-body transformation. But it’s Steph who makes the experience truly exceptional. She teaches with heart, precision, and a flowing grace that feels like a dance between body and spirit.

Each class is a reset. A softening. A letting go. The stress of the week melts away, and I leave feeling taller, lighter, more open--in both body and heart. I've experienced deep shifts physically and emotionally since practicing with her, and I know it’s not just the method—it’s her.

Steph’s teaching is not just movement--it’s medicine. Her deep understanding of the body, especially the fascia, combined with her soulful presence, makes each class a journey of healing and embodiment.

I feel eternally grateful and blessed to have her in my life.
